Download

There are two download options, select the one that matches the version of OS/400 that runs on your IBM i, iSeries, AS/400. Both download options consist of iInstall Reborn and the JT400.jar file, which is needed to communicate with the IBM i.

The download consist of a ZIP file containing the folder ‘iInstall Reborn’. Extract the folder and it’s sub-folder to the disc on your PC. For Windows® users: You should extract the folder either to the root of the drive, or to the ‘My Documents’/’Documents’ folder. You must not extract the folder to the ‘Program Files’/’Program Files (x86)’ folder. The reason for this is, that iInstall Reborn create a property file in the folder, and Windows will not permit that in sub-folders in ‘Program Files’/’Program Files (x86)’.

Why the name iInstall Reborn?

I introduced the first version this tool back in 1997(!!). At the time it was called ASInstall and was developed in Visual Basic V2. At the time diskettes was the media to use for distribution. In 1998 I moved the development of ASInstall to Borland’s Deplhi V1 (Object Pascal).

When AS/400 was renamed to iSeries in 2000, ASInstall was renamed to iInstall (i for iSeries) and the development was moved to Borland’s Delphi V4 as a 32bit application.

In 2011 I stopped the development of iInstall. In the summer of 2015, one of the previous customers of iInstall contacted me, asking for a new version. Eager to learn Java, I started out the development. Inspired by the name of the movie Johnny English Reborn, I decided to call this new version, developed in Java, for iInstall Reborn, which seemed like the right thing to do at the time 🙂
